Note: Slight AU since there's no actual knowledge of Myrtle having a sister :P
She sniffles in the confinement of her closet, her little hideaway when things trouble her. Those troubles normally consist of the other kids being rude to her, and her parents wanting nothing to do with it. It must be her fault, right? She's the one with the stupid magic ability, and only one person shows that they care.
The thought only has her wanting to cry some more.
The door opens, and she looks up to an older girl towering over her with her hands on her hips. The older girl's dark brown eyes look stern yet concerned at her.
"Myrtle," the older girl says. "You can't hide in here forever."
Myrtle snorts harshly, tears prickling her eyes again; she quickly wipes them away. "Oh yeah? Watch me." She glances to the floor, sniffling and pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose. "This is my happy place, Dolly."
Dolly sighs and moves to sit down beside Myrtle. She brushes her dark hair away from her face, wraps her arm around Myrtle's shoulder, and leans her head on it. Myrtle doesn't turn her away, continuing to look at the floor.
"You shouldn't listen to everyone, Sister," Dolly says. "You have a special gift, no matter what others say."
The kids around the neighborhood taunt her because she makes sparks appear when she's upset, and the thought only makes her more upset. "Special enough to be taunted," Myrtle retorts bitterly to her sister. "A target for ridicule. What does it matter if I'm going to be picked on for it?"
Dolly rubs Myrtle's arm. "Because what they say is rubbish. People fear what they cannot understand."
Myrtle knows her sister means well, and honestly, it helps her smile a bit more. While the closet is her haven, Dolly is always welcome into it because she makes her feel better.
"Do you think it would let me turn the boys into toads?" Myrtle asks, hope in her tone.
Her sister laughs and grins. "Only if you practice and you let me set up the trap."
Myrtle shifts to her side and embraces Dolly. "Thank you," she says and holds Dolly closer. "For being here."
Dolly returns the hug. "Always."
The sisters remain in the hug for a little while longer inside Myrtle's closet hideaway. After they break apart, the plotting begins.
