Blood and Dirt
Will probably should have recognized the absence of secrets pouring from Hannibal's eyes as a warning sign. He avoided eye contact because it was distracting to have people's souls on display in front of him. When Will finally mustered up the courage to bring his gaze up to Hannibal's, for only a second, he braced himself to learn something about the psychiatrist that he did not want to know. But nothing was there, even as Hannibal smiled or frowned his emotions and thoughts never touched his eyes. It was unbelievably refreshing for Will, like standing in a cold river.
Hannibal stands across from him on the other side of the bars and smiles. His eyes are brown with a hint of scarlet. There is nothing there but blood and dirt. They say that eyes are the windows to the soul, and Will is finally figuring out that Hannibal never had one.
