The job of a Special Victims detective is never easy.
Especially when dealing with children. A 7 year old girl was raped by her grandfather.

At first she was resistant to talk, but finally opened up. She was terrified of him. She said that he had told her that this was all her fault. That if she wasn't such a bad little girl none of this would've happened. He raped her repeatedly for a week and a half. She pleaded with him that she was good. He told her she was dirty and needed discipline.

Her parents died in a plane crash 2 years ago. And she was left in the care of her grandfather.

The day of trial, the little girl was set to go on stand and tell her story. She was scared that he would get mad and hurt her again. It took a while, but she finally agreed to go on stand.

They called her in.

She was nervous. She was holding tight to a little brown fuzzy teddy-bear. The bear had her tears on his head. As she was about to walk into the courtroom, she handed the Teddy-bear to the detective.

Before the court date this Detective promised her that it would all be okay. Said that, no matter what, she would be protected and that nothing bad would happen to her.

The little girl handed the Detective her bear. She looked up at the detective with her big blue eyes. They had water in them.

The Detective knelt down and the little girl gave a huge hug. With a pat on the back the little girl went inside the courtroom.

It left the Detective with such a feeling that words could not explain it.

Do you know what it feels like to have someone completely rely on you? To be their rock and shield and sword. To know that you are what is keeping someone together. To be the one that they expect to see when they walk out of that courtroom. Do you know the kind of pressure that takes on when having to make sure nothing happens to them? Even if its the hardest thing to do. To have to live up to the expectation that a little soul holds for you. To make sure not to let them down? To try to shield them from the evils in the world and tell them that its all going to be okay, when their strongest foundation was shook? When their life is spiraling away from them? When all seems lost, to be the light at the end of the long, cold, hard tunnel?

The Detectives of the Special Victims do.

Review Please. :) I really need the encouragement.
