Disclaimer: I do not own Akuma no Riddle

A/N: Cliffhanger nooooo~ Can't wait to see what happens next week.

"Tokaku-san" She whispered to herself.

A hindrance, huh?

Haru gripped the cell phone in her hands tightly.

Then why …

Just then the door began to rattle, the force stronger than the typhoon beating on the window.

Haru stood up. Tokaku couldn't possibly be back yet, could she?

A loud crash silenced her hopes.

"Haru!" Tokaku ran to where she had left the other girl for safe keeping. There was no longer a door, leaving no room to wonder how Banba had come to enter. The entire office was a mess. It was hard to believe that just hours before she had believed this place could be a safe haven for her roommate.

The assassin winced, her body still hurt from the fight with Isuke. But it was nothing compared to the growing pain in her chest.

Seeing the mess of the room the feeling only became stronger. How could she have told Haru such a terrible thing? A lie to keep her safe…? The reason no longer mattered.

They both had such limited time. Even if they both made it out of this class alive, Haru would leave for her life. Every word Tokaku spoke to the other girl could be their last.

"Ha-" She began again, until her sharp blue eyes caught something horrifying in the dark.

A quiet shifting sent the assassin into defense mode. Tokaku pushed the unknown figure against a nearby shelf, a still bloodied knife held to a smooth throat without hesitation.

There would never be hesitation again.

The figure made no struggle to get away. Instead, a gentle whisper served to pull the killer back into focus.

"Haru?" Tokaku realized. Adrenaline making her heart beat in fast waves of dull pain against her head. "How did you?" Azuma asked anxiously, lowering the knife to look back at the body that was ever so still on the floor. "Is she-"

"I wonder." An eerily smile crossed, Haru's lips. "I can take care of myself, I'm not fully helpless." The words were mere ripples of what she really wished to tell her protector.

It was clear "I know." Tokaku apologetically agreed. Somehow she wished to believe the target was week. For being week meant Haru had never had to deal with such hardships. And being free from those troubling situations was what Tokaku wished for her most of all.

In the small distance between then, words began falling from lips, "Haru, I-" The assassin began to pull away, her emotion toward the other girl fluttering faster than she could acknowledge what they were.

Haru glided her arms around Tokaku's shoulders in an embrace. It kept them close and acted to still those emotions.

It stilled them enough for Tokaku to rest into one.

The unlucky student 13 could not see the other's face, but she could feel as slim arms slowly found her back. They held her in a way that made her heart sink. There was a safe strength in those arms.

But Haru could feel the emotion behind the gesture. The hug was meant to comfort someone… but not her.

"What happened to Isuke-san?"
