Birthday Cupcake

-you've got a little bit of icing there-

There was a sharp knock on his door, and he leapt up from the couch, fingering his wand anxiously as he approached the door. There was reason to be cautious, especially after the latest attacks on houses not to far away from his flat. Alone and wary, he spent his nights reading into the early morning. Books littered his coffee table, half-read or just started, bookmarks stuck into the pages.

With a sharp tug, he opened the door, his glasses resting on his nose. He had to blink and open his eyes before he could recognize the sight in front of him. "Can I come in?" Marlene asked, a purple scarf winding around her neck and her blonde hair braided halfway down her back. He nodded, speechless, before standing back to allow her entrance.

She clicked her tongue as she took his flat in. Messy though it was, and as much of a neat freak as he was; he just hadn't found the time nor the energy to clean it up lately. A cup of half-drunk tea littered the counter, and packages of food were scattered randomly on the floor and his small dining table. Marlene quickly shrugged off her heavy coat, and began tiding up, her wand out. He watched her with awe as she managed to transform his messy flat into something resembling somewhere a human would live, all in the space of five minutes.

That was when he noticed the brown-paper wrapped package that had fallen out of her coat pocket and tumbled onto the floor. He picked it up wearily, bending muscles he hadn't used in weeks.

He slowly pulled the wrapping off, breathing deeply in the room that was silent, apart from Marlene's happy hums as she darted around the flat, cleaning here and there. A cupcake sat in the middle of the parcel, looking so perfect he could hardly believe that it was real. A large 'R', made out of icing, decorated the small butter cupcake, and he longed to pick it up and scoff it down.

Marlene's blue eyes met him and she smiled, grinning so wide he feared that her face might split in halve. "Happy Birthday!" she yelled, walking over to him, the grin still playing on her lips. "Here, this is for you."

The cupcake was taken out of the parcel and placed into his hands. He stared down in shock at it, a small smile creeping into the corners of his mouth. "Eat it," Marlene told him, gazing up at his face. She shook her head, before taking the cupcake into her own hands, pulling it from the patty-pan, and breaking a chunk off. "Open wide," she commanded, and so he did.

The cupcake was placed into his mouth.

Marlene laughed softly. "You've got a little bit of icing there Remus!" she giggled out, pointing at her own lips. His mouth opened in an 'O' of surprise, before he wiped his lips, hoping that he had got it.

He hadn't.

After three more unsuccessful attempts, Marlene shook her head at him. Rising up on her toes- she was still too short to reach him- she brushed her fingers over his lips, clearing the blue icing away.

And, to his surprise, she brought her fingers to her mouth and sucked the icing away, delight written on her face. "Yum!" she exclaimed, making him smile broadly, eyes twinkling the sunset.

It was then, lookign down at her, all smiles and happiness, that he fell hopelessly in love with Marlene Maeve McKinnon.

Maeve is her middle name because it is of Irish origin and I've just always imagined her as Irish, sorry! Anyways, this was written for the The Cupcake Challenge over at HPPFC, and reviews are love!
