Innocent Glance
Six-year-old Haruno Sakura was running across the village as fast as she could, away from the girls that were picking on her above average forehead. Twice she tripped and fell, but she got up quickly and ran when she heard the shouts of the girls. She was perspiring. Her pink locks were damped, her red top and black shorts were dirty from landing on the ground twice and her eyes were red from crying in terror at the thought of the girls catching up to her.
Soon, Sakura reached the forest, out of breath after running non-stop from the bullies. Though she could not see them anywhere nearby, she hid herself behind a tree to be safe. Her nose was runny and her hands were trembling slightly. It was starting to get dark and Sakura wanted to go home but she was too afraid to come out from her hiding place in case the bullies were nearby. She choked back a sob as she wiped her nose with the back of her hand. She was tired. She was hungry. She was hurt. She scraped her knees when she fell and many small scratched could be found on her arms. There was a small bruise on her forehead after one of the bullies had thrown a stone at Sakura before she ran.
Hugging her knees tightly, the six-year-old Haruno leaned against the tree and closed her eyes, intending to rest for a while before going home. Just as she was about to close her eyes, she heard a familiar voice of a boy talking.
Looking from behind the tree, Sakura spotted a boy, probably in his teens, carrying a boy who could be his younger brother on his back. The boy looked around her age, with onyx eyes and spiky black hair. He looked familiar, but Sakura was not too sure who it was as she had only just entered the Ninja Academy a week ago. His elder brother looked exactly like the boy except his hair was in a ponytail. They seemed to be talking as they smiled and laughed, causing the pink-haired girl to smile, though she could not help but feel slightly envious of the boy for having such a caring brother.
"They seemed to be heading home…" Sakura thought as she watched them past the tree she was hiding behind, "I better get going as well."
Before Sakura looked away from the two brothers, the boy suddenly turned and looked towards her direction, looking straight at her. The two children locked gazes for a moment before Sakura realized how dark it had become and had to get back home quickly. Giving the spiky-haired boy one last glance, she sprinted towards the opposite direction from the two brothers.
"Sasuke?" Itachi looked at the six-year-old boy on his back who was looking at something, - or someone. Sasuke tore his gaze away from the retreating form of the pink-haired girl to meet with his brother's questioning look.
"Iie, nii-san," He replied his brother who had turned forward again. Young Sasuke then thought about the pink-haired girl he saw who had been watching him and his brother for a while behind the tree and wondered why she looked exhausted and beaten up.
Little did the two children know that they would be spending their Genin days together as a team along with another boy with blonde hair and blue eyes…
