I don't own South Park - it's owned by the very talented Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Doesn't Even Notice You're There
---
It is a cold spring morning and a teen-age Eric Cartman has found his friend/enemy Kyle Broflovski standing looking over the waters of Stark's Pond. He can see that Kyle is miserable and he knows why. Kyle's best friend, Stan Marsh, finally had sex with his long-time on/off girlfriend Wendy last night. He was quick to share the news with all of his friends by text.
Cartman moved to stand next to Kyle - his taller and fatter frame dwarfing the shorter and thinner boy, "You love Stan, don't you."
"Shut up Cartman," Kyle replied between his teeth.
"You love Stan and he doesn't even care."
"Shut up Cartman!" Kyle's reply was louder this time.
"You love Stan more than that Wendy bitch."
Kyle turned and was glaring at Cartman with anger in his eyes, "I'm warning you Fat-ass."
"You wouldn't use him and dump him then use him and dump him," Cartman's voice was almost sing-song in its mocking tone.
"Cartman!" Kyle's fists were clenched, he didn't want to hit Cartman but he was getting seriously pissed off.
"You're not a prick-tease like her, you would let him go all the way."
"God dammit Cartman!" Kyle shouted, slightly shocked by the larger boy's crude language.
"He sees you but he doesn't see the you, you want him to see."
"Cartman," Kyle's voice is faltering - like something has hit home.
"You're in love with Stan and he's oblivious," Cartman's voice came out harsh and cold.
"No," Kyle's reply is soft - like he is trying to deny Stan's indifference rather than Cartman's words.
Cartman turns to leave. As his feet crunch into the crisp white snow he speaks quietly, saying under his breath, "Don't worry Kahl, you're not the only one who loves somebody who doesn't even notice you're there."
Kyle looked up at the back of the retreating boy. He had heard those last few words and they sounded so sad and defeated - not like Cartman's usual arrogant bluster at all. He knew that they meant something but wasn't ready to deal with that just yet. Kyle half-smiled - maybe, just maybe, things would turn out OK.
