(A/N) This idea popped into my head randomly and I could not help but write it down. This is probably the shortest one-shot ever written (it's 550 words ^_^;). I guess you can call it a drabble...lol. Anyways, enjoy! This is before the beginning of OoT so I'd say probably a week before The Great Deku Tree is poisoned by Gohma.

A legend, passed down through the generations. A tale long told by the mouths of many. The words entrancing every eager ear.
The Great Deku tree told of a story, a boy from the sky who saved the world. He bravely left his humble island in the sky and went to the surface to save his childhood friend. With great skill, the lowly boy defeated the horrible evil and rescued the girl whom he had been trying to save.
All was not well however, because with the evil man's dying words, he cursed the three of them to be chained to a never ending cycle. The man's hatred would be born again and the soul of the hero and the soul of the spirit maiden would forever have to be reincarnated to fend off the same evil.
The children of the forest, the Kokiri, gathered around the tree's massive roots and sat. Their innocent eyes widened at all the suspenseful parts of the grand story. Their pointed ears perked at each word the old guardian of the forest boomed.
The boy without the fairy, Link, was the last to arrive and join the circle of children. This story interested him in particular. He felt connected to this hero of the sky somehow, but he didn't know why. Link leaned against the base of the trunk and closed his eyes, concentrating on the tale, picturing each scene in his head.
"...the Spirit Maiden, finally free from the grasp of Demise decided to stay on the surface. She would protect the Triforce for as long as she lived, to make sure no evil abused it's holy power ever again. And her childhood friend and the hero chosen by the goddess stood by her side, for the rest of their lives. And that was when the land of Hyrule was born anew. The end."
The children applauded and slowly stood little by little, to continue their endless play. Link stayed behind, eyes wide in amazement. He'd never heard of anyone with so much courage.
"Great Deku Tree? That hero person, do you know his name?" Link asked, looking up at the dancing green leaves.
"Why yes, Link. You bear his namesake." the tree chuckled.
Link's already large, curious blue eyes grew even bigger as he digested this information. "Wow...that's so cool! Great Deku Tree, do you think I can be like him someday?"
The Great Deku Tree smiled as much as a tree could smile. "I can see it Link, you will be as great as him one day. Your destiny is bound to be a great one that people will tell for many generations to come. Maybe one day, I will be telling your story to the Kokiri children."
Link closed his eyes once more and leaned back against the sturdy trunk. "Do you really think so?"
"Oh I know so." The Great Deku Tree whispered. He watched Link fall asleep, dreaming of adventures and seeing the vast land of Hyrule with his own eyes.
Little did Link know, his destiny was closer than he thought and the test of courage would have to be taken yet again to stop the evil incarnate from taking over the land once more.
And this is where the tale of the Hero of Time begins...
