The Queen Mother

"What do you mean 'It doesn't matter' !" said Plagg indignantly, whizzing around Adrien's head as the boy brushed his teeth before the giant bathroom mirror.

"It means," said Adrien, through a mouthful of toothpaste, "what I said. This whole business about ladies and toms and queens doesn't matter." He spat into the sink.

"It matters far more than you know." Murmured Plagg.

"You can never convince me Ladybug is bad," Adrien continued "She just the most wonderful, creative , gorgeous…"

"Oh, here we go again." Plagg groaned.

"My point is she'd never be involved with something wrong. And from what she says , her Kwami is all sweet and nice and helpful and would never do anything wrong either."

"Tikki refuses to believe she's in the wrong." Said Plagg. "She's held on to the 'lady' position for eons. She believes she is justified in eliminating anyone who could possibly lay claim to the Queen title."

"I refuse to believe my Lady or her kwami would do anything shady." Said Adrien, slipping on his shirt. "So what if Ladybug is automatically my boss? She always fixes everything. Ladybug is so much more important than me." He sighed at his reflection. " And I believe no kwami is capable of willingly hurting someone."

"Our appearance deceives you."said Plagg darkly. "This power game has been going on since almost the beginning of time. Kwamis are perfectly capable of great cruelty when their authority is on the line."

"Think of the ring as a throne." Continued Plagg. "Ladybug and her kwami currently sit on it because there is no living female on your side who can lay claim to it. Tikki then begins to put in safeguards, to assure no female heir will ever exist. Ever wonder why you're so in love with Ladybug? You are cursed to love and be loyal to her. A tom must serve his lady. Causing you to love her ensures you will never overthrow her. And because you are sexually loyal to someone who will never love you back, there is no chance of you having a daughter, or any descendants at all! Your love for Ladybug is just a tool to keep Tikki in power!"

"You'll never understand my feelings for Ladybug!" cried Adrien as he rushed down the hall. "Since when have you cared about anything but cheese?"

"I care about YOU!" shouted Plagg , chasing after the boy. "I care about you, and all the other Chat Noirs! I am sick and tired of Tikki putting all of you through this just to keep power! Keeping you from happiness, keeping you from finding true love! Keeping you from being a husband, a father! Destroying your family, making you an orphan, just to keep that STUPID CROWN!"

The kwami's voice echoed in the huge hallway, before dying down to a whisper. "No one deserves to be robbed of every important woman in their life, just so things can be the way they always were. No one, and especially, not you."

The pair stood frozen on the staircase leading to the door. Adrien shocked into stillness, Plagg heaving with emotion.

"Every woman in my life?" asked Adrien weakly, turning to the family portrait above the stairwell.

"Kid," Plagg started, but Adrien had collapsed to the steps shaking.

"Oh Mom." He sobbed, grasping the handrail.

"Oh MOM."
