Yuuri frowned as she rolled up the papers, thumping them a few times against her open palm. Her job was supposed to have been a relatively simple one: find the man who owed her client money, and then convince him to pay that money-- and thus avoid all the negative publicity a lawsuit would bring. She needed someone to carry her things and he had nothing else to do, so she'd brought Domon along. After getting the information she needed (and telling Domon in no uncertain terms to keep to himself when she confronted the freeloader), Yuuri had thought she'd taken all variables in consideration.

"The records here state that Yamamoto Yuriko lent you money three months ago and you have yet to make one payment to cover that--"

The heavyset man leered at her. "So, she sent a little girl to get the dough for her?"

However, she hadn't counted on the man her client wanted her to bargain with being a total ass.

He kept leering as he leaned against the doorjamb. "No, seriously, I'm curious. What can someone as tiny as you do?"

Well, I could always break a few bones in your hand. Yuuri took a breath to remind herself that while she was an officer in the year 3000, here she was merely a part-time investigator... and what was considered standard tactics for dealing with an uncooperative suspect in her time would get her arrested for assault in this one.

Her composure regained, Yuuri continued. "My client is willing to give you more time to make the full payment, but she would like some monetary form of good faith."

The slob of a man loomed over her, grinning nastily. "Make me."

Yuuri was about to let her temper get the better of her... and then she felt an arm around her shoulders.

Domon's mouth was set in a line. "Are you messin' with my girlfriend?"

She wasn't sure why, but she suddenly noticed that Domon was at least a head taller that the man she'd been arguing with (and judging from the flash of panic across his face, he had too). "Are... are you two working together?"

"Well, yeah. You know those television shows with the sexy detectives and their chemistry?" His grip tightened around Yuuri. "We're just like that." Domon then let go and took a step towards the man, easily towering over him. "So, about that money you owe?" He cracked his knuckles for emphasis.

He scrambled for his wallet. "Uh, right, everything I owe--"

"Plus interest," Yuuri added.

"Plus interest." He shoved the money into Domon's jacket pocket, smiling weakly. "Have a nice day, and if I may say so, you two make a lovely couple." The door slammed behind him.

"I have to admit, Domon, that was some quick thinking on your part." Yuuri counted the money again, deciding not to add the part that she never would've expected such quick thinking from the likes of him.

"Tell me about it-- I guess being taller than everyone else finally came in handy." He froze for a moment. "Listen, Yuuri... about what I said..."

She waved him off. "Don't worry, you're forgiven. Just think of it as... me finally agreeing to go on that date with you."

Domon looked unusually thoughtful before he spoke again. "Most dates-- good ones at least-- end with a kiss."

Yuuri was this close to smacking him... but the almost pitiable look on Domon's face when he realized that she wasn't exactly thrilled with his suggestion made her change her mind. And he did help me today.

She stood on her tiptoes, gave him a quick peck on the mouth... and then murmured "If you tell anyone, I'll kill you," as she led the way back home.

Domon's fingers hovered over his lips for a moment before following her.

"Right. Our secret."
