A/N: This is my first fan fiction so don't be so hard on me.

Fran Fine awoke to the sun streaming in her bedroom window. She groaned and threw the covers off heading for her closet. She began rummaging through her closet searching for her fuzzy light pink bathrobe. She reached a hand up and wiped the sleep from her eyes and slipped the robe on. Then she went to her vanity and stared at her reflection. Curls were sticking up in every direction and her lips were chapped. A sigh escaped her lips and she took the brush from the vanity and brushed it through her matted hair. After a few minutes her hair looked half decent but still quite untamed. A few more minutes went by and no luck, so she decided to leave it as is. Fran took one last look in the mirror and trotted down the stairs heading into the kitchen. "Good morning everyone!" She beamed. The children smiled at her looking up from their plates. The youngest, Gracie smiled the first to speak. "Morning Fran." With that Fran sat down in her usual seat, Niles having already set her a plate. She took a bite of French toast and looked over to Mr. Sheffield's chair noticing he was absent. A frown came across her features. "Daddy won't be around much today." Maggie said quietly. Fran turned to her a questioning look on her face. "Why?" Maggie looked down at her plate for a moment then looked back up at Fran. "Today is the day mom died." Gracie and Brighton grew quiet and they all stared at their plates. Fran looked at them. "I'll be right back kids." She took off her robe Revealing her sweatpants and t-shirt. Silently she went to Mr. Sheffield's office door. Softly she knocked. A quiet "come in" came from the other side of the door. Fran opened the door slowly. "Mr. Sheffield?" Maxwell looked up from his desk. A gasp came from her lips. He looked awful. The normal sparkle in his eyes was now dim and they were glazed with tears. He looked like he was hit by a bus. She walked over to him and sat on her usual spot on his desk. When he didn't respond she spoke again. "Max?" She looked at him with sympathetic eyes. Max met his eyes with hers and a single tear rolled down his cheek. She wiped the tear with her thumb. She pulled him up from his chair and pulled him into a gentle hug holding him close to her. She felt his body rack with sobs. "Shh it's ok. It's ok." She said comfortingly. Her hands rubbed his back as his sobs began to seize. Max pulled back from her embrace and looked at her. "Miss-… Fran." He paused. "I'm sorry I broke down on you it's just Sarah….she-"He couldn't finish his sentence and looked at his feet. "There's nothing to be sorry about." Fran spoke up. "I know you miss her. Of course you do she's your wife." She smiled soberly. "But don't shut me out. I'm always here for you. Always remember that." With that she gave him a kiss on the cheek and walked towards the door turning to give him a small smile then walking out. Max stood there and touched his cheek were Fran's lips had been. His cheek felt warm and pleasant and he felt a little better but not completely. He sighed and walked out to the terrace. A small golden finch perched on a branch by him and chirped. He looked up at the small bird and a smile came to his face. The bird then flew out into the bright blue sky and he whispered. "Bye Sarah."
