Lilly Elderwood. That was her maiden name, but everyone else knew as the baker's wife, or Peeta Mellark's mother. She had always been overshadowed by the other people in her life. Her siblings, her parents, her children, her husband. She had always been teased by other kids in her past, and no one had ever shown her love, or even the tiniest bit of kindness. So, this child grown hate everyone in her life, even, her children.

But one day, she saw him. John Mellark, her soon-to-be husband. Unfortunately, he was always with that girl, the Everdeen girl, always by her side, laughing with her, following her. Lilly knew that she could never have him. However, when the day came where she left John for a boy from the Seam, Lilly saw her chance. She hung out with him, for she loved him, but Lilly could see it in his eyes. John would never love her as much as she loved him. She was only a consolation prize to be received, in place of that other girl.

And with that discovery, she turned mean. Being mean was only to shield the anguish inside of her. She beat her own children and took out her anger on those around her. Nobody ever had, or ever will love her. That is why she hates her youngest son Peeta, and his girlfriend Katniss Everdeen.

Lilly Elderwood has a reason for being mean.
