Playing Sidekick
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or Smallville. If I did, HHR and CHLARK would not be fandom.
Summary: Sequel to Playing Hero. Hermione is playing sidekick. Oliver Queen has no idea.
A/N: Sorry if there are any grammatical mistakes, I don't have a beta for this. Oh and if anyone is wondering, this, like the previous story, takes place during the summer of 1989. Oliver is 8 and Hermione is 9. And I might just be inspired to continue on with this story when they are much older. Please R&R. Enjoy!
The first time had been an accident.
The second time had been an experiment.
The third time…another experiment.
The fourth and the fifth were…obligatory responses?
Well, she couldn't very much stand and watch while the idiot broke his neck now could she?
Oliver Queen seemed to have a penchant for getting into situations that could result in injury. She was starting to wonder if it was on purpose. After all, he was able to sense her interventions, even if he did not know it was she who was performing those acts of magic.
Just yesterday, he had decided to climb the bookshelf in his father's study and his weight had caused the shelf to waver forward. If she hadn't stilled it in time, the bookshelf would have crushed him into the ground.
She'd like to think that she had saved his life or most certainly from great harm.
And he had called her a terrible sidekick.
That showed how much he knew.
Hermione snorted at the thought and was about to return to reading her book when she heard a noise coming from upstairs.
Here we go again, she thought with an eye roll.
She lowered her book, just enough to have a clear view of the staircase from where she sat in the sitting room.
One, two…
"YAHOO!"
Three.
Oliver came down the stairs on his skateboard without any protection gear.
Typical.
She could see he was losing his balance and anyone could guess what would happen next.
The skateboard slipped from beneath his feet and he toppled forward.
"AHH!"
His body stopped a mere centimeters from the ground before dropping instantly.
Hermione quickly lifted her book and diverted her gaze back to the page before her. She could sense Oliver's excitement as he scrambled into the room.
"Hermione! Did you s--?"
"No, didn't see a thing, Oliver," she said, not bothering to look at him.
Oliver grunted in irritation. "Well maybe you would've if you stopped reading for once."
Hermione couldn't help but chuckle as she watched him storm off.
No, she really wasn't a terrible sidekick.
With a secret smile, she returned to her book. The Adventures of Robin Hood.
