Going Separate Ways
"So, what then?" Amy asked. "You're going to leave me and Rory behind again to go off and save the world?"
The doctor studied her a moment, a finger pressed to his lips, and then he let that hand drop to his side, nodded enthusiastically and replied, "That's exactly it. You two should have some fun. Spend some time together, without me about to get in your way."
He bounded from one side of the TARDIS' control panel to the other, pressing a variety of buttons and pulling levers as he went. The corners of his coat flapped back and forth against his waist.
"And you'll go and put yourself in danger meanwhile," Rory added dryly.
"Yes! Yes, that's the plan," he confirmed. "You're finally getting it. See, Amy? Not that hard. Even your boy over here has it figured."
"Hey!" Rory protested.
The doctor shrugged. "You know it's true."
"Well, I don't want to leave you alone," Amy said. "We can help you. We're not as useless as you seem to think we are."
Suddenly serious, the doctor walked over to her. He lifted her chin with a fingertip and looked into her eyes. "You are not useless. Amy, you are anything butuseless. Okay?"
"Yeah. Whatever," she said. "Just.. don't try and ditch us this time."
