A/N: I own neither Degrassi nor the song "Love the Way You Lie"
First published fanfic.
"Have you ever loved somebody so much you can barely breathe?" Clare Edwards turned to face the boy clad in all black. It was a cool September night and both had just finished their English assignment and were now laying atop Eli's hearse staring up at the night sky, a blanket draped across both of them.
"Where have I heard that line before?" Eli was still looking up at the sky in wonder.
"Eli!" The blue-eyed beauty slapped his arm playfully, "I'm serious. I mean, you know, when you're with them and you meet and neither of you even know what hit them. You know? You get those warm fuzzy feelings and the chills..."
The young teen bursted out laughing, "Really Edwards? Quoting Eminem? Did you honestly think I wouldn't notice? I mean, just because I listen to Dead Hands doesn't mean I occasionally tun on the radio to see what you people listen to. To be frank, I thought all you heard was 'Hallelujah' music"
"Very funny, ELIJAH," she replied back rolling her eyes, "And 'you people'? You are so mature."
"Whatever Edwards, answering your question. I... I don't know what love is. When your girlfriend dies you question everything."
Clare sat up on the the hood of his car and looked down on him, "You didn't love her?"
Eli sighed, "Love... love is a strong word. I truly cared for her. More than anyone can imagine, I just... I just never got to tell her I love her."
"Well," Clare replied, "You can still tell her..."
"Not sure I want to."
"Why?" The red head asked confused.
"I think I want to know what love is with someone who is actually alive." He sat up as well and stared directly into her blue eyes.
Clare sighed with relief. This is what she wanted to hear, she knew now that Eli has had enough space, enough time, maybe now she could bring their "situation" up. It had been killing her inside, ever since they discussed that he needed some time to get over his dead ex, not knowing if they would ever be official. But now their was a glimmer of hope that he was ready to let her go, and let Clare in.
"Well.." she didn't know how to begin.
Eli looked at her and lace his fingers with hers, noticing that brought a blush to her face he smirked, "Well, thinking about it, maybe our relationship isn't as crazy as it seems, Clare."
