"You're breaking up with me." Steven stared at Wallace. Wallace stared back with no expression at all.

"Yes." Wallace said, and Steven's heart broke into a million little pieces. He staggered over to the armchair in the living room, almost tripping over the carpet and barely managing to sit in it before his legs gave away completely.

"What?" Steven managed to whisper. "Why? What did I do to deserve this?" Wallace sighed in the way he did when Steven did something particularly vexing, like going on and on about his rocks, or how his father will never accept him for who he truly is, or when he leaves the Hoenn region for his research.

"You're just too high maintenance for me. Just too much". Wallace said, squatting in front of him. "You're too needy." Steven closed his eyes, not wanting to accept what he was hearing, clasping his shaking hands together.

"Needy?" He repeated. "I-I...I kn-" He didn't know what to possibly say. Wallace had always told Steven off when he clung too much on dates, or even after sex. Especially when he wrote him letters too often. Steven had thought he'd managed to change during the time they were together.

"I can do better!" He said desperately, reaching out to Wallace. Wallace snorted and backed away.

"Not fucking likely by the looks of it." He thought he heard Wallace mutter underneath his breath. It was like giving Wallace all the power over the Pokemon League had finally gotten the better of him and changed his personality entirely.

"I'm sorry." Steven whispered. Another desperate cry in order to reach out to the man he loved. "Please, Wallace, please give me at least one more chance to make things right again." To his horror and shame, a single tear rolled down his cheek.

"Oh, please don't cry. It makes me uncomfortable and it makes you look pathetic." Wallace said, coldly. Steven angrily wiped the traitorous tear away with the back of his hand. He knew exactly that when he cried Wallace hated it, hated him, thought it was pathetic and degrading. It was. Wallace was right. Steven was needy and clingy. But he was desperate. Wallace deserved to be with someone who could meet his expectations and needy. Someone, who understands him in every way possible.

"Okay. Alright." He muttered. "Understood."

"Alright. See you at work then." Wallace said, turning around and leaving through the door. Steven curled in on himself in the armchair, and allowed himself to finally sob. Wallace was gone, his father looked down upon him and all he had was his championship title and his work...his beloved work. But is it all worth it...in the end?
