Blood Stream

It had been over an hour since they had brought in her fiancé. Beckett had watched as they led him to the interrogation room but he had not seen her, her orders would not allow it, at least not yet.

She had watched the confusion on Castle's face as they refused to answer any of his questions, taking his blood as if they were on autopilot and he were just a host to extract information from. Beckett hated this. She hated how she couldn't be there for him, ease his mind, come up with some wild-ass theory that would help it all make sense but she couldn't.

Beckett's job was here in the conference room, waiting. She could be of no use, not yet.

Time passed for what seemed like a very long time until her new partner, Rachel McCord, came into the room with a folder in hand and took a seat.

"Well," Beckett asked anxiously.

"I'm going to be honest with you Beckett," said McCord, "It's not good."

Beckett's heart sank a little. "How bad?" she asked.

McCord handed Beckett the file and she carefully read it line by line. It wasn't good at all. In an instant Beckett's world began to unravel. She took a deep breath. She would not lose it here in front of her partner and at her new job. She would find a way to fix this, she had to.

"Want me or the Captain to tell him?" McCord asked wondering if this was too much for Beckett to handle on her own given that she was too close to the situation.

Beckett took a deep breath. "No," she answered as she closed the file handing it back. "No I'll do it." Beckett stood up, "It's best he hears this news from me and not from strangers. No offense."

"None taken," said McCord.

As Beckett stood by the door to make her leave, McCord added, "Agent Beckett, I'm sorry."

Beckett only nodded as she made her way to the door of Castle's interrogation room. She hesitated for a moment, her hand on the knob and then she turned it making her way inside to give Castle the news that was likely to change both their lives.
