Meh, not the best, but it's been stuck in my head. L's thoughts just before his death as well as one of the most powerful lines in the fandom. please enjoy and review!

Bitterness

It was such a strong word.

L hates bitterness. Anything that would be confined to the cheapest and horrid pastries. That would be made by no-talents who found it in themselves to call their shops authentic french bakeries without a formal culinary degree or background. Just like them, it was fake and wrong.

The taste that curled the tongue. The green tea leaves that were left to soak too long in hot water. The sardonic and scornful resentment that grows when someone else wins the game and laughs.

Acrid and unpleasant taste that crawls down your throat and makes you wish to wash it down with something sweet. Maybe sweet cakes or sugar cubes that please the soul. It increases brain activity and solves many, many things L has found. Now, if only humans focused on the sugar instead of the wrong flavour all the time.

The wrong that even creeps into his consciousness and threatens to stop his clever mind process, dragging him down to the petty squabbles with the lesser minds. It captures L and lowers him to mindless idiotic human level and he hates it.

Even pouring rain can't hide it and he sees the disappointment himself that is so, so obvious. It does't matter that death may follow him at any moment. What matters is; even hated things must be said- even the greatest detectives fall prey to the childish of faults and L doesn't doubt it-

- and it colours his tongue as he asks-

"Tell me, Light-kun, from the moment you were born, has there ever been a point where you've actually told the truth?"

The rain drowns it out effectively and Light doesn't reply. It only proves a point and furthers his heart to tighten in his chest.

Does Light-kun think of him as a fool? Surely even Kira is capable of reading lips through pouring rain? Or has writing victim's names on pieces of paper diminished his intelligence and sight?

Ah...

Resentment. It captures him. An unpleasant taste.

...

Bitter-

Light-kun is laughing when he closes his eyes for the final time.

he was rightrightright, he won, light-kun was kira, kirakirakira, justice

It's childish he knows and like any childish excitement the resentment grows quickly after.

watari? watari...? I... was right.

In the end, L still loses.

-ness.
