If you watched the anime, this is continuing on in Ahiru's point of view from the very last scenes, where Fakir is sitting on a dock in the lake with Ahiru sticking her nose in the water.
Ehe.
Ahiru the duck stuck her head underwater. The cold was a refuge from the hot summer sun in which she lived.
No longer as a human, merely a duck with the memories of a humanoid.
But at least, yes, at least Fakir was still her friend. If nothing else, let not that friendship be lost. If anything, let time stop and allow this moment to last forever. She froze. No, she couldn't have such thoughts. Yearning for something was what drew her to Drosselmeyer in the beginning. They hadn't seen Drosselmeyer yet since Mytho defeated the monster raven. But what if he were still around, listening in on her at this very instant? She remembered the various times he had popped in uninvited. Time stopping.
Now she was a duck once more, content with her life in the knowledge that Mytho and Rue were happy. Long lives were ahead of them, nothing compared to that of a du-…
She drew her head back on the surface and gasped for air. " Quack."Fakir turned from his paper and looked toward her, amusement in his eyes.
"I thought you'd forgotten to breathe, even as a duck." He chuckled. "Maybe not."
"Quack." Ahiru rolled in the water, belly up. It's a hot day.
"Then shall I dump ice on you, idiot?" Sarcastically, he made as if to get up from his chair. Humor radiated from him.
"Quack!" She splashed him with one of her wings. She wasn't an idiot!
Fakir glanced at her from behind his soaked paper. "Fine, it's a bit warm for me too." Setting the paper aside, he stripped off his shirt. Ahiru blushed, then squeaked as she saw his scar again. There was no time for her to react before he had jumped into the water beside her, black hair turned midnight dark as it soaked.
Uwaaa… Ahiru paddled away quickly to the edge of the pond, looking away from the boy she…
Ah, no such thoughts. Nope.
"Ahiru, look I found something!" Ahiru turned to see Fakir holding something pale blue in his hands that glistened in the light.
"Qua?" What's that?
"Not sure, but it floats too". He placed it on top of the water to show her, before splashing the water and pushing the small item towards her. It seemed to turn lighter as it neared Ahiru, until it was almost white. The water around Ahiru grew warmer as the stone floated closer and closer to her, until she felt as if she were burning.
"Quaaaaaa!" she tried paddling away, but the stone's glimmer mesmerized her, and she couldn't move as the water around her churned and boiled around her. It swirled and enveloped her in a steamy embrace. Fakir, help!
The world turned black before her eyes. Fakir's alarmed face the last thing she saw.
