So I got this idea while listening to the song 'Travelin' Soldier' By the Dixie Chicks.
Disclaimer: I do not own Glee.
She had just turned 18 two days ago. Sporting her new army green, she walked into the cafe to kill the time she had before her bus came. Simply put, Santana felt alone. After her parents' death during the end of her senior year, Santana was left with nothing but her parents' unpaid debts. She was an orphan with no money, who refused to live with a great aunt or some kind of distant relative. She didn't have the money to live on her own, let alone afford college. So she did the only thing she could think of to help herself. She enlisted in the United States Army.
As she sat down in the booth, Santana couldn't believe her eyes. The most beautiful blonde woman that she had ever seen came up to take her order. Her blonde locks, held back with a neat bow, were nothing compared to her deep hazel eyes. Santana was stunned. All through high school, she had been witty and sharp tongued. But since the loss of her parents, her only family, she had become quiet and withdrawn. So any flirtatious remarks the girl had were kept to herself.
"How are you doing today? My name is Quinn and I'll be your server. Can I start you off with anything to drink?"
"Just water, thanks." There was so much more Santana wanted to say, but she just couldn't find the words. "And, can I just get today's special?" Her eyes remained on the menu as she spoke.
"Of course. Can I get you anything else?" It seemed this woman's smile could brighten the darkest of days.
"No, I suppose that's it." Quinn returned after a few minutes with Santana's meal, beaming at the young soldier the entire time. She could tell the young girl's mood was anything but happy. She looked lost, maybe even scared.
Santana just couldn't place her finger on what was so special about this waitress. Ever since her parents' death, nothing made her excited anymore. She lived her life in a state of apathy. But now, as she finished her meal, she could not get her heart to stop racing, knowing that Quinn would be back to her table any minute.
Santana looked up just as Quinn reached the table. "So how was everything?"
"It was great. Thank you." As she said this, she thought about how she would not have enjoyed the meal near as much with a different server.
"Is there anything else I can get you?" Her eyes never left Santana's.
She desperately wanted to ask her to stay. To sit and have coffee. To just talk to her. It was her last few hours of her life as she knew it. Everything was about to change, so what would it matter? "Nope, just the bill, thanks." Santana immediately regretted her decision. She looked up to see those same beautiful eyes. As Quinn turned to leave, she made her decision.
Santana's hand shot out and grabbed Quinn's wrist. "Wait!" she said with a little too much enthusiasm.
Quinn's eyebrow shoots up, but she gives Santana a little smile. "Yes?"
"I was wondering…um… Would you mind sitting down for a while? And maybe, talk to me? I just, I'm feeling a little down right now." Santana's heart was in her chest. She couldn't believe she had just asked the beautiful blonde that.
Quinn just gave her a knowing smile and says, "I'm off in an hour, I know where we can go."
For the first time in months, Santana didn't feel so lonely.
Reviews are greatly appreciated. I'd like to know if I should continue with this.
