Hawaii Five-O belongs to CBS. I'm only visiting.
This very short story is a response to a writers' group challenge. The challenge words are in bold face.
CAR FACTS
Steve stared in stunned disbelief at the scene from his office lanai. His car-his car!-was missing. Just what he needed today of all days, when he had a meeting with ONI at Pearl to wrap up a spy case. His temper moved toward the boiling point as he roared, "Danno, Chin, Kono! My office! Now!"
The tone of their boss's voice was all the warning the three detectives needed. Mt. McGarrett was close to erupting. They looked at one another as they examined their consciences. Nope, there was nothing beyond the normal case load, the monthly reports were done, and none of them had been in the hospital lately. Danny hadn't pulled any practical jokes in the last couple of days and Kono's lunch breaks were no longer than usual. Chin's wife had been keeping the office supplied with home-made goodies, too. Yes, things were normal, or as close as they could ever be to normal, at Five-O. So what had triggered Steve's legendary ire?
"You're second-in-command, Danny," Chin muttered, giving his young colleague a slight push. "You go first, Bruddah." Kono nodded in agreement as he moved to bring up the rear.
Danny tried to appear nonchalant as he pushed open the big koa wood door to McGarrett's office. "What's up, Steve?" he questioned, trying to remain calm. Chin and Kono affected an air of cautious concern as they noted the very annoyed look on the lead detective's face. They began to examine their consciences again.
"My car," Steve growled. "It's gone. It was bad enough that some tourist parked in my spot this morning. Now someone's taken my car. And before any of you ask, I didn't leave it unlocked."
"So where did you park it, Steve?" Chin asked calmly. Maybe he could defuse the situation somewhat. At least, he hoped so.
McGarrett motioned his detectives out on the lanai as he pointed, "There!"
Danny, Chin, and Kono followed the direction of the boss's finger. Williams' eyes widened as he took in the scene and its implications. "Steve," he choked back a laugh, "That's a tow away zone!"
