The mask lay on the throne in Erik's lair. The silence and chilled air were deceptively calm to Meg's eyes. She crept forward and lifted it to peer into the trap door she knew was concealed below it. She forced away her harsh breathing and racing pulse. Her costume was heavy and stuck to her like a weighted anchor. "Are you there?" she whispered at last, searching the seams of the wood for a hint of movement.
Her worried eyes met his shining ones at last. "I'm set. Where is she?" Erik murmured.
"Mama is with them both now. All went as planned but what comes next?" Meg twisted her hair in nervous anticipation, her ragged breaths threatening to overtake again.
"We wait, and you tell them what we discussed. Remain calm. Move now, the crowd approaches." His eyes disapearded and Meg knew her most challenging role to date was about to begin: a liar.
The group of cast members and managers she had rushed ahead of before suddenly burst into the grand space and sloshed through the open gate. Cries of outrage and shouts of confusion filled the misty silence like a sickly ink. Taking a deep breath and steeling herself, Meg turned to meet them. At last they stepped near her so she could begin. With innocence and fear lacing her voice, she pleaded out, "They're gone! All of them! What does this mean?"

I'm looking for a story from some years ago. It waa either POTO or LND. It was lengthy, modern, and well written. Erik was wealthy and Christine was working for Carlotta at the very beginning of the story. Christine was kidnapped by Erik and taken to his castle/mansion where he had a staff that helped care for her. She hated him at first and there was a part where she threw all sorts of dishes at him and cut up het feet walking on them. They eventually fell in love and married, but Raoul came the next day to "rescue" her and shot him. They left thinking him dead and Christine went to the opera house. For months Erik hides in the walls and watches over her and Christine finally reunites with him. She has a baby which she didn't know she was carrying and they work to defeat Raoul and start their life again.
