The quill stopped in his hand and he looked up at the sound of her entry. "Have you got your new contract?"

"Yes." Christine placed the document in front of him.

"What is this?" Erik asked.

"They said you have to sign it for me."

"Why the hell should I sign it if it's your contract?"

"Guess why. I'm a woman."

"You can't be serious." With an annoyed huff he reached for an empty paper and began to write.

"What are you doing?" She asked him.

"New regulation for the opera house," he answered. "I won't be running a crèche."
