Dream Vacation

DISCLAIMER: I don't own Lydia, Betel, or anything that goes on in his wicked mind. They're somebody else's creation, I just write stories about them. No harm, no foul, no lawsuits.

They were at the beach. The sand was sugary white and warm without burning. Their big black umbrella cast long shadows that protected their pale skin. Best of all, clothing was minimal and he had a legitimate excuse to run his hands all over her- he blessed the inventor of sunscreen. They had played in the water for hours and he'd been mesmerized by the water sliding down her skin as she moved to her towel to dry. It had been a great day and they were topping it off with wine at sunset and a long kiss.
The whole thing was full of romance, perfect. Too perfect he realized when he woke up. He probably should have been suspicious when his pale Lydia didn't burn at all and never needed any of the breather comforts. He made to rub a hand over his face when he realized it was trapped under something. He cracked an eye open and was pleasantly surprised. There, curled at his side, was his beautiful girl. She had been watching him sleep with a soft smile and tracing his features with her light touch.
"Hey sleepyhead, ready to go to the beach? I thought you were in a hurry to get going. I've got everything packed, including that little suit you helped pick."
"Babes, I was born and died ready."
He swept her off the bed with a big kiss and carried her down the stairs. It wasn't the same as his dream in a lot of ways. They had to deal with the mundane tasks, like carrying their things and driving, but her smile was brighter and there was more laughter. Besides, there was always the sunscreen to look forward to and maybe a game of hide the bathing suit. Dreams were overrated anyway.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Because of the torture I've put Betelgeuse through lately (and chastisement from my readers) I decided to write him a happy little story. It's three hundred words of fluff, but maybe it will help balance out my previous meanness. Thanks for reading, let me know what you think.
