Luna knows she's weird. She understands that she sticks out and is considered abnormal. She knows that's why her own house mercilessly teases her. She knows their treatment of her isn't right, but she doesn't hate them for it.

She knows of the muggle Christmas song "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." She knows how Rudolph was different because of his glowing red nose, and because of that difference, he was excluded by his peers, something Luna can commiserate with whole-heartedly.

Throughout her early Hogwarts years, she felt like that particular reindeer. Even now, she feels like him. The similarities have continued because now she has friends, others who accept her as an ally, someone they can depend on in tough times.

She showed them what she could do at the Department of Mysteries, and like Rudolph, she is treated better because of heroism.

As she smiles with Ginny and laughs at Ron's normal pig-headedness, Luna surmises that she no longer minds the fact that she's comparable to Rudolph.
