Half a Mind

Quiet cafes were her favorite. Nothing too fancy; just a hot cup of coffee, a fresh scone and the morning paper. Nate would sit across from her with his sections while she read up on her own. She sipped at his coffee discreetly until he stole it back and they switched pages. Scanning the paper, her brow knit in, at first, confusion and then amusement. Smirking, she flipped the paper down so she could see him over the edge of his own.

"I have half a mind to fall madly in love with you," she said with a smile that was too genuine to be joking.

Nate raised an eyebrow. "Why's that?" he asked without even looking up.

"Oh, there are too many reasons to name." Sophie was quiet but sincere, her eyes soft as she looked at him. Raising her paper back up, she returned her attention to the museums – all with the dates blacked out with a sharpie. "Most of a mind," she amended to herself.
