Arwen's Choice
~A poem describing Arwen's choice to forsake her immortality.~
by Vané Alasse

Fragrant breezes toss her hair
Whispers echo on the air,
Her moonlit lashes softly fall
While flowers rustle on the wall.

Shadows of worry cross her face,
Never can her mind erase
The pledge she made, her choice, her vow,
That murmurs like a nightmare now.

Then among the pristine light
Her path had seemed so clear, so right.
The elanor and niphredil
Made everything seem true and well.

But now she wonders was she right
To bid farewell her dear Twilight,
To cleave forever to the Day
And in this Middle-earth to stay?

Should she yet sail to Valinor
And leave behind the eastern shore?
Her love would still be evergreen
Mere memory on which to cling.

The stars watch their Undómiel
And ponder why she is not well.
She does not know their thoughts for her,
Her vision now is all ablur.

Crystal tears stream down her face,
She bears her pain with silent grace.
Decision will bring no relief,
Either path is fraught with grief.

But there is just one way to go
Her heart decided long ago.
She sets her course with calm repose
While fading moonlight dimly glows.

She must leave her Elven kin,
Sunder ties of love with them,
Follow one who's kingship waits
Inside Minas Tirith's gates.

The softness of the morning hours
Falls on her like sunlit showers.
Her choice now made she rests from fear
As fragrant breezes toss her hair.
