He cannot remember when he fell in love with her.
…he thinks it just was always there.
It just was.
Maybe it was on his eleventh birthday and he didn't get a Hogwarts letter and cried-
(" I'm a wizard! I'm... I'm good enough! Stupid Hogwarts…. ")
She kissed him on the cheek.
And told him it was just late- maybe it was hidden in the egg carton?
("Harper! Don't encourage him! Max- Hogwarts isn't real!")
("Shut up Alex. Don't worry Maxie. Magic's real.")
Mom yelled at him for some reason when he threw out all the eggs… weird…
He never did get a letter.
Maybe he fell in love with her when she made a lizard- dress, and lizard- hat and lizard -shoes.
…Green colored- images of lizards walking, lizards sunbathing, lizards in sombreros, lizards dancing…
She said he was her inspiration.
Her Muse.
…he didn't stop smiling for a whole week.
And then there was that time that she cried.
Alex had dumped ice-cream all over her newest Justin- Hair Sweater.
…and it was like…like the whole world cried with her.
And he knew he had to fix her.
...so he made her a smoothie.
'The Harper', he called it- Banana and chocolate and peanut butter and a Special Secret Sauce.
…she asks what the Secret is.
He never did tell her.
(Love).
And then there was that day.
When he was about to be Erased from Time.
About to sucked away in a crack in time…gone forever…
…never to be born at all.
And he saw her face.
...Harper laughing, Harper smiling, Harper crying…
Harper. Harper. Harper.
And then a whirling sound comes…
…and then nothing.
Only dark.
But there is Her face.
…and if there is Her, there must be a Him.
He must exist.
He must be real.
…because…because He remembers Her.
( …The Stone brings him back, and there's light and air and life again, but he never forgets that it was Her that really saved him…)
So when Justin and Zeke have left her, of course he's there to pick up the pieces.
He is Hers.
He has always been.
…and he just wants to make her smile.
He's never been a Prince.
So…so he'll be her Knight.
Because she's always been his Princess.
( She finds out that he made a Harper-Hair Sweater and she kisses him and maybe he will get his Happily Ever After after all…)
