Disclaimer: I do not own Death Note or L.

A/N: I always knew this was going to be a short one. Maybe it's better that way. Shorter stories are usually better when writing a sad theme. L's final day with the girl he loves. Rated K+ just to be safe. Hope you guys enjoy it! Review, please? :)

*EDIT: Tweaked the part of their conversation about the bell*

It was 6:45am when he let himself into her room.

She was already awake and sitting at her desk getting ready for the day.

She stopped what she was doing when she saw him standing behind her in the mirror.

Something was off.

"Is everything okay, L?"

He didn't mind that she had ignored his previous request to call him by his alias. He wasn't sure why he didn't care. He just didn't.

He stayed silent for a few moments before he leaned on her desk. She finished putting on her mascara and looked up at him. His expression was unreadable. She placed a comforting hand on his knee.

"You and I are going to be parting ways soon."

Her eyes widened a little.

"What makes you say that?"

He stared at the wall, avoiding her sapphire gaze.

"I can hear the bell again. It's ringing much louder today."

"Maybe it's just a church, or even a wedding?"

"I think it's a funeral."

She dropped her head. He had been feeling like this for a little while now and she knew that. He had been confiding in her his every thought and feeling. It was completely out of character for him.

She sighed lightly and he finally looked down at her, just as she raised her head again.

"It's going to be lonely without you."

He leaned down and hugged her tightly.

"I'm going to miss you," he whispered into her ear.

He pulled away from her and kneeled of the ground, taking her hands in his.

"Do you still have those home videos you made when we were at the orphanage?"

She nodded.

They spent the rest of the morning watching those videos. Watching their memories on the TV screen and holding each other on the sofa. Losing him was going to be the hardest thing that she would ever have to deal with. Not having him in her life anymore was going to be awful.

L's grasp around her tightened when they watched the video of their first kiss that she had made one of her other friends film for her. He had been uncomfortable with the idea, but now he didn't mind so much. It was sweet and romantic and he remembered it as clearly as the video showed it.

Before he left to see to the task force that afternoon, he gave her one final kiss.

Their last and most perfect exchange of feelings.

She didn't want to let him leave her side.

He smiled at her. "I love you."

L was killed that evening by a heart attack. There was no doubt that it was Kira's plan all along to have the shinigami kill him. No, it was Light's plan. There was no one else it could have been.

She watched as he fell from his chair. She shoved Light away from his body and sent him tumbling while she bit back uncontrollable sobs, holding the lifeless body of the man she loved.

She remembered his last smile. His last kiss. His last words to her.

"I love you, too, L."
