Tony stared at Gibbs, surreptitiously, of course. It wouldn't do to have Gibbs catch him. Tony had perfected the subtle stare, seeing Gibbs without being seen. It had been his main occupation for the past five years, after all.
There had always been something about Gibbs, but lately…lately, it wasn't admiration that made Tony stare. It wasn't the desire to learn from his mentor, to perfect his investigative skills. It wasn't a cold, slow grudge at being left to hold the pieces together while Gibbs sat on a beach in Mexico.
No, it had inched toward something else, something that frightened Tony even as it had made him burn. It was the side-glances Gibbs had begun to give him, too.
