The Promise
Lynn was always strong, but not tonight. Marlene was by her side, but she still felt… Broken. She had seen too much, too much blood, too many people die. She had killed too many people. She was laying in her bed, right next to Marlene's bed. Neither of them was sleeping, Marlene turned her head and looked at Lynn. For the first time Lynn looked scared. Marlene got up and laid down next to her.
"Lynn, are you ok?" She asked making Lynn face her. Lynn shook her head, looking away from Marlene. "It's ok. We're ok." Marlene said holding Lynn's hand. "We're not. We'll never be the same Mar'." Lynn said quietly, holding Marlene's hand tightly but not looking at her. "We'll always be friends, that will be the same." She said hopefully. Lynn faced Marlene, so that she was laying on her side and their foreheads almost touched. "That's not what I mean. What if I can't protect you Mar'?" Lynn said very worried about Marlene. "You'll be able to protect me. You will. I'll be able to protect you too. I promise." She said hugging Lynn tightly.
Marlene was the only person who had ever seen Lynn cry, and she had only cried because of her. Lynn held onto Marlene tightly, "I'm scared Mar.' Really scared." She muttered resting her head on the pillow. "You'll be fine Lynn, we'll be fine." She added; Lynn looked at her. "Promise me you won't get hurt." Marlene looked at her friend. "I promise. But you have to promise to protect me too." Marlene whispered. "I promise." Lynn said before closing her eyes and both of them fell asleep.
