My Musical Crush

Crystal Bowersox walked off of the American Idol stage once her duet with Lee Dewyze was through, and after they both received the amazing praise for that performance.

She felt amazing: Her blood pumped through her and she heard the cheering of the crowds echo in her ears.

She couldn't believe their performance had gone so great! She was still shocked at the whole aspect of even being on the show!

And she also could believe that she had admitted to basically all the people of America on television that Lee was her musical crush.

"Yes, Ryan, actually Lee's always been my musical crush." She remembered what she had told Ryan Seacrest when they had discussed the performance after they sang.

Crystal sat down on a chair backstage and set down her guitar as she thought about all the things that had happened on that stage that night.

Yes, she had said that Lee had always been her musical crush, ever since the auditions. How could he not be? His music style and the way he played just made her want to get up and dance or rock out to his guitar. She loved his voice, and yes, she would admit he was cute, too.

But it was a simple little comment that the audience of American Idol had somehow twisted and changed the meaning of it. But... maybe there was another meaning behind it.

Both Lee and Crystal had become great friends over all of the time they spent together on the show. And yes, she did like to talk to him a lot and he was now one of her very best friends. But did that have to mean that she had an actual crush on him?

Before she even had time to think about Lee and their strong and growing friendship, suddenly ruffling came from where she had just come from the stage.

Crystal looked up to see none other than Lee Dewyze, guitar in hand and heading toward her.

"Hey," he said simply, setting his guitar down so it leaned against the wall backstage. His mouth formed into that little, tight, nervous half smile of his that he constantly wore, his lip quirking up on the left side of his mouth.

"Hi," Crystal said, at first nervous that he was going to make a remark about what she had said. But when he didn't, she continued excitedly, "We were great out there tonight!"

"Yeah! I can't believe they thought that was the best performance of the season!" he said happily, this time smiling widely.

Overflowing with joy, Crystal opened her arms suddenly and pulled Lee into a hug of congratulation.

Although surprised by the sudden gesture, he didn't fight it and returned the hug tightly.

After she pulled away, she had a wide smile draped over her face and the worries that once filled her slipped away.

"I can't believe we even made it this far," she said as an afterthought.

"Well, have a little fate in yourself, Crystal," he said, nudging her. "We were made to be doing this. And besides, apparently we've got what it takes if we're still here." He smiled down at her in reassurance.

"You're right, I guess," she said, smiling. Then, she teased, "Lee is always right!"

He chuckled at her joke and after a while, bent down to pick up his guitar.

"I guess we better be going back onto the stage now," he said, and then began to walk forward.

"Oh, right," Crystal said, getting her guitar as well and going to follow him.

But before he had even taken two steps forward, he turned around and surprised Crystal with a light kiss on the cheek.

"Oh," he started, "and... you've always been my musical crush, too."

And after those words were spoken, Lee turned around and headed back to the stage, leaving Crystal utterly dumbfounded behind him, butterflies stirring in her stomach.
