A/N: I think this is the longest I've been wanting to write something, but haven't gotten round to it... yeah, this has been in my head for bout 2 years now!

The starting is Harry's p.o.v after HBP when he leaves Privet Drive forever, although is centred on Petunia, after Harry goes.

The bits in italics are all Petunia f.y.i.

Hope you enjoy,

Memories made of emerald:

"Happiness is not something you experience;

Happiness is something you remember."

Oscar Levant.

Harry raced down the stairs, dragging his trunk behind him. He grabbed the handle and pulled the door open wide. As he stood gazing out into night, preparing to step over the threshold one last time, he heard a noise. Turning, he met his aunt's gaze with uncertainty. "I'm going," he said quietly, yet defiantly, "What more do you want from me."

He was surprised to see tears in her eyes, as she slowly descended the staircase towards him.

"I want to say goodbye, Harry."

Her silent apology for how he'd been treated for the last 17 years lay between them, unspoken.

But he recognised it.

He just didn't know if he could really accept it or not, so he said, "You were her sister... my aunt. Did you ever love either of us?"

She nodded, tears falling freely, "Yes. Yes I did. Very very much. I'm so sorry I never acted on it. I'm so sorry I never told you. Or her. Or her..."

Harry knew, then, that she was telling the truth. He smiled slightly at his Aunt and said, "I think she knew. I'm sure she always knew. You were sisters. That meant something."

Petunia nodded slowly, "I've always hoped that that is true. Every single moment of every single day, I pray to God that she knows how much I love her-"

Lily...

Her voice broke then, with the pain, and she turned away.

He was reluctant to leave her in such a state, but Ron and Hermione and Lupin and the Order were all waiting. So was destiny.

She understood that. She stepped forward, and hesitantly hugged her nephew for the first time.

He was taller than her, he realised.

He wondered if his mother would have been, too.

He pulled away slowly, and stepped out the door.

"Goodbye, Aunt Petunia."

"Goodbye, Harry."

He strode away down the path, but before he could Apparate away she called to him, "Harry!"

He turned, and she looked into his eyes; they were illuminated in the moonlight, and for a moment, her breath caught... his mother's eyes.

Lily...

"Harry... be careful. I couldn't bear to lose you, too. You've all I've left of her. You're all I've left of anything."

"I'll come back, and visit," he promised. "When this is all over; when they're avenged, and Voldemort is gone and the world is a safe place again. I'll come back."

And with one single smile that lit up his mother's eyes, he was gone.

Petunia slowly shut the door, and bolted it. She walked into the kitchen, and sat down at the table. Slowly, she reached into her pocket, and drew out the photo she always carried with her.

She gazed down at her sister's smiling face; her brilliant emerald eyes, for a long long time.

Lily...

Fin.

Hope you enjoyed.

I know it's a pretty unrealistic concept for some of you, but honestly, I think it might happen. You never know...

Adios, FireAtWill52.
