Author's Note: Before you read this, I want you to know, I wrote it more than a year ago. My original intention was to include it in a short story that featured characters sharing their thoughts about their actions of betrayal. The characters I was going to have speak included: Marietta Edgecombe, Karkaroff, Crouch Sr. (for helping his son escape prison, a criminal offense, he betrayed the government and the laws he worked so hard to uphold, and in his final moments he seemed to realize that he was a traitor and he wanted to come clean), Rookwood, Quirrel, Snape, and Pettigrew. The story never materialized and I forgot about the poem. I was sorting through my old Fanfiction binder, when I came across it. So, here it is, a poem that has been waiting a long time to grace computer screens around the world. And in light of the 6th book, it seems even more fitting for one of those characters on my "traitor" list.

I don't own the characters, but this poem's mine!

Scars of a Traitor

No matter what I do

It won't go away

The guilt that's within me

Is here to always stay

x

I can wish all I want

My actions won't come undone

I've ruined the bond of trust

Where there was friendship, now there's none

x

I am tarnished

This is my fate

Locked in treachery

Thing of hate

x

Gone away

Truth for lie

Moment of new oath

Turned spy

x

Within the confines of my soul

Beneath the beating of my heart, you'll never know

My reasons for choosing this path in life

Trading you for your foe

x

The guilt continues to tear me apart

An anguish within me cries

From the depths of my darkened heart

And the truth, with me, dies.
