Let me start by saying that the season 10 premiere was awesome! Also, I really shouldn't have listened to the song "Angels Among Us" by Alabama any time at all after I got into Supernatural. So… this happened. This takes place right before the very first episode, so Dean is four. Caution: Feels ahead.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Dean needed a break from his dad for a moment, so he decided to take a walk outside. It was not a very good idea for a four-year-old, but he wanted some fresh air. He snuck outside as John would never have let his young son outside when it was almost dark out. His mother was feeding Sammy, which would take about twenty minutes.
The fresh air helped clear little Dean's head. He walked down their street, and was going to turn around but decided to keep walking.
About ten minutes later, he realized that he was lost, and it was almost dark. Dean thought that he wasn't going to get home. He was scared, and didn't know what to do.

Meanwhile, a man had sensed a boy's sadness. He flashed to where the boy was, but keeping out of sight. 'Poor thing.' The "man" thought. 'Don't help him Gabe, you could reveal your location to the others.'
The "man" heard soft sniffling from the boy now. He cringed. Normally, he could ignore this sort of thing, but he felt that there was something different about this boy. He was special, but he couldn't figure out why.
He let out a sigh, and then stepped where the little boy could see him. "Are you okay?"
"W-who are you?" he asked, looking about ready to run away.
"I'm Gabriel. What's your name?" he said gently.
"Dean. I'm Dean, and I'm lost." He whimpered.
"Well, kiddo, I can help you." Gabriel said, smiling.
"My name's Dean, not 'kiddo.'" Gabriel laughed. "Can you help me find my way home?"
"In a way, but you have to trust me." Dean nodded, surprisingly calm. "Alright, Dean. Hold on to me, and close your eyes." He instructed Dean, who grabbed onto his arm and closed his eyes.

When he opened them back up, he was standing in front of his house.
"Well, here you are. Home, safe and sound." Gabriel said.
"Are you an angel? 'Cause my mama says that angels are always watching over me." Dean smiled.
"Actually, I'm an archangel, but I'm hiding as a Trickster." Gabriel explained, not expecting him to remember for long.
"Wow! You are an angel!" the boy's face lit up. "I can't wait to tell Sammy and Mama and Daddy an angel helped me!"
"You do that, kiddo. Well, I gotta go." He replied. "Is Sammy your brother?" he asked quickly.
"Yep! He's six months old today!" was the proud reply.
"You take good care of him, I hate when brothers don't get along." The archangel said, disappearing, with a thoughtful look on his face.
After, Dean went inside quietly and snuck up to his room so his dad wouldn't know he'd been out.
Later, when his mother, Mary, came to tuck him in, he wanted to tell her what had happened.
"Mama, an angel helped me today! You always said they were real, and they are real!" he smiled at his mother.
"How wonderful, Dean!" she kissed his forehead.
"Are they really always watching over me?" he asked.
"Always. They are always there, even when you can't see them. Angels are watching over you, my little boy." She kissed her son goodnight and left the room. She had to tuck in Sam, too.
He was six months old today.

And we all know what happened after that.
