"Hey, Potter," Lily yelled after James, everyone was surprised at this, since Lily usually went to great pains to avoid James altogether, let alone talk to him.
"Yes?" James said, very surprised, "Have you changed your mind? Are you going to go out with me after my numerous failed attempts?"
"792 failed attempts," Remus muttered to himself, but wasn't heard by anyone,
"Potter, I have a really important thing coming up next week,"
"What is it?" James was curious all of a sudden, what is important enough that Lily would talk to him for it?
"It's none of your business, but can I ask you a favor?"
"Depends,"
"Can you stop asking me to go out with you for a month?"
"If you actually go out with me,"
"Potter!" Lily seems on the verge of tears, "Please, just this once, leave me alone..."
"Well, we could make this a deal,"
"If you are suggesting a date in exchange for a month of silence, then no," Lily said stubbornly, "I will not go out with you and never will!"
"I was merely suggesting a wizards duel," James said, "We are both of age, and you are better at Charms than me, what do you have to lose?"
"The fact that you get an O for DADA and a E at Charms every single year?"
"Come on, or I will increase the amount of times I beg for your hand..."
"OK, Fine!"
Lily seriously regretted her decision now, she excelled at charms, sure, but she has a feeling that Potter has much more experience than she does, Alice noticed her depression and asks her what it is, after she heard the story, Alice thought up something and whispered it in her ear, watching with glee when Lily's frown turned upside down with a smug look on her face.
"Oh, I'm suddenly looking forward to tonight!"
"Lily," a voice rose from the empty corridor, and Lily whirled around, "relax, it's not started yet,"
"Whose your second?" Lily asked, even though she guess the answer,
"Sirius," of course, "Whose yours?"
"Alice,"
"OK, let's get started, suddenly, lights went up on the corridor, and James was seen standing there with his wand in hand.
The two of them circled each other, each not wanting to make the first strike, nobody seems to about to cast a spell, and they just continued to stare at each other.
Suddenly, Lily smiled bigly and fluttered her eyes in James direction, James felt his face and his heart warm up, Lily basically radiated beauty with the big heart warming smile and the fluttering eyes that show her wonderful emerald eyes, and he was reminded exactly why he loved her and chased her for so long,
"Stupefy!" Lily's clear voice rang and bounced off the marble, and suddenly James's trail of thought was stopped as he toppled to the floor,
"Hey, that's not fair!" James yelled from the floor, the stunning spell, for some reason, has allowed him to speak,
"Why is it not fair?"
"You used my affection for you against me!"
Even though Lily's face felt warmer and most definitely looked redder, she remained talking in a calm tone,
"But isn't dueling all about using everything to your advantage?"
James sputtered with wide eyes,
"A deal is a deal, you will not ask me out for the next month,"
And with that, Lily and Alice were gone in a swish of her robes, leaving James on the floor.
