Wes waits until work is over and he's by himself. One day he'll invite Eric, because whether Eric likes it or not they're his friends too, but for now he wants to keep this for himself. He doesn't have many photos of them left after the blast, and the ones he did manage to salvage are singed at the edges, but he doesn't mind. He takes them out and looks at them one by one, and lets the memories overflow him.

He always looks at Jen's first. He snuck a snapshot of her before the four of them strong-armed her into a group photo (that one's gone forever). She's working at the computer, with a look on her face he learned quickly meant she was irritated, but trying to block it out and keep focused. He knows better than to ever admit it out loud, but he always found that look kind of cute.

He traces her profile with his thumb. "I miss you."

But he won't let himself be sad. Because when Jen comes back (and it is when, he won't let himself think otherwise) and found out he even considered letting himself wallow in self-pity, he'd be in for the beating of his life.

Gently, he puts Jen's photo away for now to look at the other ones. He's not surprised at all that most of the ones that made it through the explosion are of Lucas. It's hard to believe the young man smiling oh so charmingly at him is also one of the most intense people he's ever meant. But Lucas is pretty much a walking contradiction. Carefree playboy one second, hard-driven officer the next.

Another photo catches Wes's attention. It's more burnt than the others are, but he can still make it out. There's Katie, in the middle of giving poor Trip the shock of his life by kissing him full on the lips. He's still not sure how that happened. One second they were laughing and leaning on each other like they always did, the next she was grabbing him and laying one on him like they did at the end of those sappy musicals she loves so much. Trip's reaction-- stumbling a step, his expression somewhere between dazed and unbelievably happy-- is something he's never going to forget.

Wes can't help but laugh as he puts the pictures back in their safe place. "I wonder if they ever got together. It'd be a shame if they didn't."

He reminds himself to ask them when he sees them again.
