If he is a King, then I am but one gem of many on his crown.
A free period. I looked toward my friend of 2 years, a raven head with an intimidating aura, Kageyama Tobio. He was bickering with an orange-haired friend of his, Hinata Shoyou. They seemed to be talking about something that irritated Kageyama a lot. His face was completely red.
Hinata seemed to be explaining something to him, waving his hands around and jumping up and down. He was definitely excited. Kageyama didn't seem to be buying what Hinata had to say. He could've ignored Hinata, like all the others he ignored in middle school, but now, even if it was an insult, he always said something. He changed, for the better.
He broke through his egocentric wall, he's no longer an oppressor.
I sighed as I saw a group of girls approach me. Kageyama's fan club. They were in love with his skills and appearance. They always went to every game of his and they were the official Kageyama Fan Club of the school. They seemed angry. I had probably got too close to Kageyama for their liking. I wonder what they'd do if I confessed...
His playing definitely caught my attention, but it was his personality that captured my heart.
I held my breath as the 'President' of the club came up to me. She looked down menacingly at me, "We have to talk," she said with a smile void of any emotion. Looking past her smile, I could see mounds of jealousy, ready to be converted to perhaps, violence? I wished for someone to interfere. I hoped that someone needed some help in an exercise. I prayed that someone intervened.
He notices.
His navy blue eyes darted to where I sat. His eyes widened, then narrowed to a slit. He understood what was happening. He got up abruptly and walked. His quick, long strides crossed the room in seconds. His fan club didn't notice him walking towards us. As they were about to take me somewhere quiet to talk, Kageyama landed a firm grip on my wrist and pulled me toward him.
He scowled and turned to face his fans,"Don't you dare talk to her again," his voice rumbled in his throat. "And don't try to get my attention anymore. It's useless to fight a lost battle," He glared at them.
As I am now, I fear he's out of my league. Am I wrong?
He didn't let go of my hand. Instead, he kept pulling me, out of the classroom and out into the corridor. There was no one but us. "Kageyama, back there, what did you mean?" I asked referring to the 'lost battle' he mentioned.
"(Y/N), what did I mention before that?" he looked straight at me.
"You told them not to try grabbing your attention..." I said after a few seconds of memory recalling.
"So, what do you suggest the battle was?" He said, this time looking away, his bangs covering his eyes.
"So...someone has been able to grab your attention?" I calmed my mind and attempted my best smile. It faltered. He looked at me exasperated. He always notices when I'm not actually smiling.
He always cares, looking past my faults.
"I'm sorry, I actually am happy for you," I tried explaining. His look remained the same. Apparently that wasn't what he wanted to hear. Suddenly, he let out a sigh, a very long sigh. Had he been holding his breath all this time?
"(Y/N), you still don't understand?" he asked, leaving me at my wit's end for something to say. "What a dense idiot!" he continued.
"So, tell me then?" I asked, inquisitive to find out more.
He lifted his head. His eyes met mine. Looking at his eyes, I knew I could believe anything that he said next. It was only a matter of whether I wanted to believe what he said. I waited. He clenched his fist and cleared his throat. I looked at him expectantly and nervously.
"(Y/N)..."
"Yes?" I answered unsure of what would come next.
"It wasn't someone else who caught my attention," he started, in his loudest voice, "It was you...! I...I don't mind being called a king if-if you b-become my queen!" he literally shouted in the hallway. I stared at him wide-eyed.
"Would you?" his eyes and tone softened. He blushed. I followed suit.
Why does he always know the best times to say the best things?
After half a minute of taking in what he said, both of us were a beet red. I knew if I tried speaking, I would not understand a word I was saying, let alone Kageyama. So I did the safer thing. I nodded my head. First slowly, and then vigorously, my tears falling out as I did so.
He is still a King, but I learned that I am not just a gem. I am his Queen.
