Disclaimer: I make no claim to be an official court historian, for I am but a wandering Narnian minstrel, telling the tales of our past.

AN: This is a rant, carefully couched in pretty language. I hope you enjoy it.

It has been many hundreds of years since Peter the Magnificent ruled in Narnia with his brother and sister sovereigns, and all who remember those golden days have gone on to Aslan's country, but the stories are still told all over the world, and bards still spin tales of our Magnificent and Just Kings, our Gentle and Valiant Queens of old.

And since few tales have survived in the history books, the storytellers have invented myriads of new ones—some fantastic and some tragic, some dark, some humourous. The Narnian bards prefer the old stories, and tell them over and over in new ways. The Telmarines like daring epics of adventure, of conquest, of bold knights, fair maidens, evil wizards. The Archenlanders weave long ballads of brothers and family. All these are harmless, amusing, and often carry great lessons.

It is the Calormene poets you must be wary of, my child, for they delight in bringing infamy upon those they call barbarians, and so tell twisted tales of the marriages of our ancient sovereigns, of children born to the Kings and Queens out of incestuous relationships, of warped unions between Men and Beasts which dishonor the name of Aslan and shame Narnia. Do not listen to such tales, my son, exciting as they may be, for the lessons they teach are not those Aslan would have us learn, nor are they those which teach us to serve Him better.

Know this well, O my child: I have made careful search of the records and found nothing which indicates that any of the four sovereigns ever wed, nor did the famed Kings sire sons, nor the beautiful Queens bear daughters. And truly, this was Aslan's mercy, for He weaves all fates and he knew they would leave Narnia. It was His grace that they left not behind them wives and little ones when they passed out of this world to await His plan, just as it was His grace that granted Narnia would not be troubled by the Calormene Empire for many years to come. And our land has been happy since their departure.

Listen not to those who would slander our sovereigns, my child, but treasure the true stories, and remember that it is whispered that one day, when Narnia needs them most, they shall return.
