Hayley jerked awake in a quick startle from sleep to wakefulness. The sky outside the window was brightening, and the early rays of the sun were creeping through the glass. She stretched her arms above her head and gasped as she remembered. Turning her head on the pillow she looked at the man lying next to her sleeping so silently. Her breath stopped and her stomach clenched painfully as she remembered the kisses, the touch of skin on skin, the growls of pleasure and the whispered words. Elijah lay facing her all tousled dark hair and glorious exposed skin. His eyes were closed as he slept, and she gazed with fascination at the dark lashes that lay on his pale face. His lips called to her once more and she felt her mouth go dry at the though of licking that scar on his jaw, wondering not for the first time how he got it.
Dragging her eyes from his face, she looked around the room, holding back a laugh as she saw their clothes. Her dress was lying haphazardly on the ground, while Elijah's was placed on the chair. A sound from next to her drew her eyes back to the bed. The monitor relayed the sound of the baby waking in the nursery. Hayley was about to get up when she heard the quiet sounds of Klaus' voice lovingly shushing the little girl. Klaus was on daddy duty and she could stay a little longer, lying here. She sighed with happiness and turned once again to Elijah, still somehow asleep next to her. She lifted her hand and ran it gently down his face, along those sharp planes, watching as his eyes opened to stare at her with a piercing alertness.
Hayley was a child of the night and the moon, but never had she loved the sun more than when its light danced along his face.
