A: Heey guys! So it's been a tough week, lots of feels and tears and pain and just a tornado of emotions. I don't even know how we're going to survive until September, but we've got to be strong right? In Marlowe we trust. So I wrote this thingy here and believe me it was not easy, but I think it was kind of necessary. I hope you guys like it :)) ***I don't own anything related to the show.
She Waits
She stands there while the last vestiges of the daylight disappear in the horizon; it would've been a beautiful view, if only… They all said something, words of comfort that she didn't need to hear, or that she didn't want to. In her head, his voice, full of love and devotion, cherishing her name like never before, echoed unceasingly, the only voice that she desperately sought: "And Kate? I love you…"
She was surrounded by him, surrounded by his scent, his objects, his books, their shells… But he was not there. Inside her, the darkness that she had once fought so much, the same one that had built a fortress inside her, was being welcomed again, just like an old friend, creating a whimsical contrast between the white wedding dress that she was wearing and her hollowly eyes.
The ride in the limousine was not what she had expected it to be. In the back seat, her mind wandered, rushed through the most various thoughts. Minutes inside her head were turning into hours. When they finally got there, though, time seemed to move again, faster and faster, just like her heart, thumping loudly inside her rib cage.
She ran, tears already streaming down her face, one second more and the truth would be revealed, he would be alive and smiling, he would say "Hey, sorry, I was just practicing my car stunts. The tux, the hair, I got a little overwhelmed with all the spy elements".
But, suddenly, the heat strikes her and she stops. It erases his smiling image, just to be replaced by the flames that were involving his destroyed car. She feels a dagger perforating her heart and a poison being injected into her pores. She agonizes in silence, stares to the roadside painted in scorching tons of red, yellow and orange as the tears roll down her face, leaving nothing but ashes inside her crumbled walls.
She feels a hand on her shoulder and hears a voice saying that she needs to step away from there. She moves, not because she wants to, but because she is forced to. From that moment on, everything went like a blur. She was lost in time, everything around her was moving in slow motion and all the sounds seemed muffled. Even when she saw that there was no body inside the car, just the idea of having him away from her, was devastating. They say that love is not forever, indeed it's not, but the only forever that she needed was his "Always". Truth was that she didn't need a world without him by her side.
She finds herself glaring at the horizon once again, seeking the bluish tone of his eyes, the one that always comforted her, made her feel safe. She doesn't know why she decided to stay in the Hamptons; maybe it was because she wanted to wait for a sign that he was alive, that at any moment now he was going to embrace her from behind and whisper in her ear how sorry he was for leaving her.
And so she waits, feels her skin tingle as it is washed by the very last rays of sunshine. It remembers her of the warmth and the light that he had once brought to her life and that was, now, fading away.
She knows that staying there won't help in anything, but for now, just for a while longer, she'll wait.
