Hotch stared at Emily in shock. He had a feeling that she was lying to him and he could not understand why she would lie to him. As he looked in her eyes he could tell that she was lying to him and he wanted to know why.
"Why are you lying to me and to yourself Emily?" Hotch asked quietly.
Emily looked at Hotch in shock. She could not believe that he had actually called her on it. She had thought that he would take what she was saying at face value and let her go. It was breaking her heart but she did not want to tell him how much she was in love with him. She did not want to be the one who made him choose his job or her. She knew how much he loved his job.
She sighed and closed her eyes. "I am not lying to you Hotch. I think that whatever this is between us has finally run its course. Why can't you just accept that and move on?"
Hotch shook his head. "If I actually thought what you were telling me was the truth I would accept it Emily but I can tell that you are lying. You won't look me in the eye and every time you do meet my eyes you quickly look away. Why are you hurting me? Don't you know that I love you? Don't you know how much I am in love with you? I would give up my life for you Emily. I would give up everything except Jack to be with you."
Emily's mouth dropped open in shock at Hotch's words. "I am in love with you Hotch but I did not want to have to make you choose between the job you love and me. Now that I know you are in love with me I'm not going to be able to give you up. I want you and I want Jack. If I have to I will transfer to a new Unit. I will do whatever I have to so that we work."
Hotch smiled and then chuckled. "Dave is already taking care of that for us honey. You have nothing to worry about. I love you Emily and I have since we started this relationship of sorts."
Emily's heart started thumping in her chest as the words Hotch had said reached her heart. "I love you too Hotch and I have loved you just as long."
