Lucian hadn't thought it so strange, the first time it happened.
The Pokémon League library was a place rarely ever frequented, save for his daily incursions - sometimes more than once, depending on how fast he would devour his first book of choice. So when he found a black rose pressed in between the pages of an old tome, he simply assumed it had been one of the older members who had left it there, for whatever reasons.
Weeks later, however, it happened again, this time a small daisy that almost blended with yellowing paper, and then a lily a few days after that. The Psychic trainer wasn't one particularly given to flights of whimsy, yet there he was, pondering over the identity of this mysterious person with a flowery disposition instead of engaging in the perfectly interesting read in his hands. It was only after the seventh or eighth occurrence that he decided to actually give in to curiosity, determined to do a quick investigation of his own.
Little did he know it wouldn't be necessary.
"So you're the culprit, after all," His cool voice chimed in upon catching the blonde Champion in the act, a somewhat sheepish smile stamped on her features and a violet dangling from her fingers.
"You make it sound as though I were doing something wrong, Lucian,"
"Not wrong, no, but intriguing, all the same. Is that how you keep track of where you last stopped?"
"No, I'm already done with those."
"Then what's the point of the flowers?"
A simple shrug was given in response. "I just thought it might brighten up someone else's day, even if a little bit."
"I'm the only one who ever comes here, aside from you."
"Exactly."
The next time Cynthia visited the library in Canalave City, there would be a variety of flowers neatly tucked inside every single book in the Mythology section, and the only reaction that would prompt would be not curiosity, but a knowing smile instead.
She was the only one who ever went there, aside from him.
