Shortly after the Battle of Hogwarts, Draco and Hermione were both made Heads. To begin with, Hermione and Draco absolutely despised each other. However, Draco's opinion of the Head Girl changed one night when he found her crying one night in the Head's common room. She was sitting on one of the couches huddled up in a ball.

"Granger?" he asked.

Hermione didn't answer.

"Granger," said Draco. Hermione still didn't answer; she just sat on the couch looking at the cozy fireplace in front of her.

"Hermione, what's wrong?"

Hermione slowly turned to look at him, tear tracks glistening on her cheeks. She didn't sob, her tears silently fell. Still not saying a word, she handed him a letter.

Dear Ms Granger,

We are terribly sorry to inform you that your parents memories may never be recovered. The memory charm that was cast upon them was incredibly strong. It's almost impossible to reverse without causing permanent damage to their brains. We also can't afford to remove the charm. We would need to call in Memory Charm specialists, and they don't come for a cheap price. Unless you have the money needed to pay for this, I'm sorry to say that your parents may have to remain Wendell and Monica Wilkins for the rest of their lives.

All the best,

-St Mungo's Staff

"They'll never be their old selves again...they won't remember me...and it's all my fault." she said, after a long silence.

"How could this possibly be your fault?" Draco asked her confusedly. He didn't understand why this could be blamed on her. So her parents were placed under a strong memory charm. What was her part in it?

Hermione looked down and mumbled something incoherently. "What was that?" he asked her.

"I was the one to cast it."

There was another long silence. Draco understood less than he had before.

"Why? People don't go around charming their parents memories for fun..." Draco asked, wondering for what she would purposely wipe her parents memories.

"Because Voldemort would've tortured and killed them, considering I'd told them a lot about our plans to stop him. Oh, I told them so much about Harry and Ron too...I told them all about my magical life...I - I didn't want them to get hurt." she said, sniffling for the first time.
Draco, not knowing what to do, put a hand on her should for a moment before leaving the common room and going into his room.

It was two months later when they spoke to each other again, and that was right before the Christmas Hogsmeade Trip. Draco was just walking into the Common Room when he was almost knocked over by a figure with a mass amount of curly hair. Regaining his balance, he turned to Hermione who slurred an apology at him before rummaging through the cabinets in their small kitchen.

"In a rush Granger?" he asked, slowly making his way towards the counter.

"St. Mungo's! Someone, I don't know who, donated a good deal to them and they've started my parents treatment!" She said this all very quickly and with a bit of apple in her mouth.

"That's great Granger. Congratulations, honestly. I hope they recover quickly." Draco said giving her a small smile.

"Thank you Draco," said Hermione. She walked over and gave him a quick peck on the cheek before grabbing her coat and scarf before running out the door. He thought he could see a hint of a blush on her pale cheeks. Smiling a bit to himself, Draco made himself a bit of toast and some tea and sat down on the couch.

Draco would never tell her that it was him who had donated the galleons that got Hermione's parents to remember her.
