The water swirled past the boat, the current slowly pushing it down the river.
It was just the two of them and that was nice. Dean hadn't gotten much time to be with Castiel lately so he was relishing this.
Out here it was easy to forget about life. To forget problems and other things to be worried about. It was almost silent, the only noise being the water below him. It was almost strange since Dean was used to sound.
Dean looked over at the other end of the boat. Castiel was sitting there, leaned back with eyes closed. The sun was shining on his face.
Dean smiled without realizing it. Castiel was one of the most important people to him, right up there with his brother.
Even when they were mad at each other if one of them said they needed the other, anger was pushed aside. No matter how insane Castiel drove him at times, if called Dean answered. And if the situation was reversed, Castiel always showed up.
Dean took comfort in knowing he was never going to be alone again. Sure there were times when they couldn't physically be together, but he knew that eventually Castiel would be with him again.
Damn, when had he turned into such a hopeless romantic? Dean decided to blame Castiel for that if anyone asked. Which he was sure Castiel would enjoy.
Dean got up and carefully crawled towards the other end. He didn't want to tip the boat and send them into the water. Castiel must have sensed the movement because his eyes opened.
And Dean was there sitting next to him. Castiel smiled and moved over, his head coming to rest on Dean's shoulder. Soft dark hair tickled Dean's neck.
They didn't speak, for neither of them felt the need to. And Dean didn't want to break the peaceful silence.
He knew he would save this day, this moment, in his mind forever as a reminder of just how wonderful life was sometimes.
