Disclaimer: Alas, I don't own Harry Potter (or anything to do with it).

A/N: I was pondering over Voldemort's quest to live forever and his greatest fear being death when I started writing this. So, this is my take on Voldemort's take on immortality. I hope I've rated this correctly, but if you think I haven't, please do say so!

Immortality

---

n.

1. The quality or condition of being immortal.

2. Endless life or existence.

3. Enduring fame.

---

Immortality.

A state that I desire, need. A state that has eluded me for as long as I can remember.

So high up, so out of reach. I stand up, look up, fly up and reach out... and still it is so close, but not close enough. Never close enough. Always unobtainable.

However, I am Lord Voldemort. I will obtain the unobtainable. I will live forever... be forever. I will not fall into the trap and curse of mortality. Death will not take me as it has taken so many others.

Why can they not understand how weak they all are? So weak, so pitiful. They surrender to the darkness; let it consume and end them.

I am Lord Voldemort, and I am worthy. I deserve life, deserve an endless existence. I am strong... I will not surrender without a fight. I will achieve immortality where every other has failed. I will endure.

I will endure. I will evade the darkness and rise up to grasp immortality. I will be a constant presence instead of a faded memory. People will always see me as the ultimate symbol of power, no one else. I will never leave; always to be constant and eternal.

There will be foolish people who disagree. Foolish people that never last – they will succumb to the death and darkness like they always do. They will be forgotten.

And I, I will remain despite everything. I, Lord Voldemort.

For I will achieve immortality, I swear it. Even if it is the last thing I ever do. I will become immortal.

A/N: Well, that's it. It'd be great to know what you thought of it. No flames please, but constructive criticism is very much appreciated!
