Following the Rules
- Ballad of a Romulan Spy -
Born with blood of honor in my veins,
I have been raised in glorious days.
They trained me to kill in combat and war
For I am the son of famous warriors.
Looking forward to alive of fight
I went the way my father described.
I wanted to fulfill my childhood dream
To be a warrior of my home in the praetors fleet.
Now here I stand, adult and strong,
and wish I would have never gone.
But I have to obey, like everyone,
and could not stay when sent away.
Since then I was in many places,
lived as weakling with later slaves.
Chosen to be the Empire's ears and eyes
I traveled to planets far from my home.
I lost hope to find a worthy challenge
when one day this race crossed my way.
With their openness and unharming laughter
They seemed to be the weakest of all.
But soon I learned, not willingly,
never to underestimate the unknown again.
For nobody would think they could be a danger
When in truth they are the worst of all beings.
Their weapons are not phasers but words
And I got caught in their net by hearing them.
I even have to acknowledge respect
For in their own way they are warriors.
Curious they look for knowledge and worlds,
never looking back on their ongoing search.
I wish I could help them gain their goal
But my order is to pry and destroy.
So I lie to them, betraying myself,
but someday it will be discovered, anyway.
Yet I hope they will understand me then
for they are the only ones I ever called friend.
Until then I will continue my work,
undercover on this planet called Earth.
For it is the center of the enemy's world
And I am the spy to ruin their plans.
