He'd always loved her. Her bubbly personality, her kind words, her persistence. He loved her warm eyes, her soft, brown hair. To him, she was perfect.
She'd always loved him, his coldness, his weaknesses, his personality. She loved his ice cold eyes, his blonde locks. To her, he was perfect.
So when the day that Gill told Hikari he was getting married, both of their hearts broke at the sight of each other.
"You're getting married?"
Hikari blinked back the tears. She smiled a huge smile that was clearly false, to the couple that stood before her.
Luna grabbed her fiancés arm, snuggling into him. She grinned at Hikari, nodding.
"Yes! Gill proposed last night. Funny thing is, I was going to propose to! Coincidence, huh?"
Gill couldn't look at Hikari. He refused to look into those chocolate brown eyes that he loved so much.
"I-I'm so happy for you. Congratulations."
Hikari felt her voice wobble, mustering up all her strength to speak. She tried, but not a single sound came out.
"Oh dear, I forgot!" Luna squealed. "Grandma wanted to look at wedding dresses with me! I must go, goodbye Hikari. See you later, Gill!"
She pecked the stern man on the cheek, earning a slight blush from him. She giggled quietly and headed out of the door, closing it with a light bang.
"So… why?"
Gill looked up. He watched the tears roll down the brunette's delicate skin, her eyes puffed up and red. Her throat felt raw and her face felt sticky, but all he could do was stare.
"I-I… I was… pressured into it. Father said I can never be a good mayor without a wife, so I thought that Luna would do. She's… nice." Gill stuttered, a lump forming in his throat. Hikari's cries only got worse.
"She'd do, she'd nice?! Don't you understand, Gill? Marriage isn't an excuse to be better at your job, nor is it acceptable to 'love' your wife because she's nice! Luna obviously thinks the world of you, yet you only think she'll do? It's disgusting, Gill." She yelled, her eyes rubbed raw. He stayed silent, pondering. He finally found the courage to stare into the poor girl's eyes.
"I want you. I want you to be my wife. Think about it, Hikari, we're perfect for each other. Contrasts, sure, but it'd be refreshing."
He took a deep breath, grabbing the rough, blistered hands of the farm girl.
"I want to be married to you."
Hikari shook the man off, a look of pure irritation stuck onto her pale face. She stood up, looking down on him.
"You did this Gill. You can't expect me to be the excuse for Luna's broken heart." She paused. Her eyes softened, her eyebrows lowered. "Of course I love you. You should've realised that from the start and to be honest, I want you. But breaking Luna's heart? No. I'm not that sort of sick, fucked up person. You should've thought about how you 'wanted to be married to me' before you asked Luna. I'll see you another time, Gill."
"Hikar-"
But Hikari was gone, the tears streaming past her cheeks, down to her chin. She ran, ran away to her farm and lay in her bed, crying into her pillow.
'Luna will be happy, Gill will be happy, I'll be alone.' She thought, screaming into her battered pillow. She wanted him to be there with her, stroking her hair to calm her down. But he wasn't. He was with Luna, forever.
Not every story has a happy ending.
So I thought I'd try writing a oneshot, it's actually my first time! I've always wanted to write a story like this, but it never came out properly. I'm satisfied with this, and I'm happy it's not too long.
Review? Go on then(;
