"Sheldon," Amy said, "Don't you find it a bit odd that I have to trick you into being affectionate with me?"

"I find it dishonest," Sheldon said, "Why are we going around and around about this."
"Because you're not getting it," Amy exclaimed frustrated

"Then explain it to me," Sheldon said, "I'm always willing to learn."
"Sheldon," Amy said, "You are my boyfriend. Our relationship is supposed to be based on love."

"I do love you," Sheldon said, "But I'm not willing to get close to you."
"What? Why," Amy asked.
"Because," Sheldon said, "I won't get attached to anyone anymore. I won't... not after Martha."
"Who the hell is Martha," Amy asked.
"She was my sister," Sheldon said, "There was Martha, then George Cooper Jr. then Missy then me."

"Sheldon I'm sorry," Amy said softly, "What happened to her?"
"The fireworks happened to her," Sheldon said, "It was the forth of July. Mom and dad had to go to the hospital because mom's great grandmother was dying. Martha was 16. George was 10. Missy and I were 7 years old."

Sheldon paused a catch in this throat. Then he started his story up again.
"Martha let George, Missy and I set off fireworks. She instructed us on how to do it but I was a young scamp and frankly I was too impatient to listen. I just wanted to set off the fireworks. Well I did it wrong. That led to an accident causing Martha to lose a finger her left arm and soon an infection set in, She died within a month. Amy I love you but I will not take chances anymore. I can't grieve again."
"Sheldon do you think you won't feel grief if you pretend you're not grieving? That's like your sister pretending to have both arms when she only has one," Amy said, "It's okay to get mad but it's not the solution that will help you."
"R-really Amy," Sheldon said haughtily, "and can you, a neurobiological scientist really come up with a better solution?"
"I can come up with several," Amy said, "and for the record I find it quite unfair when you get all high and haughty. How do you think other people might feel. Put yourself in their shoes"

"I don't want to," Sheldon said, "It hurts too much."
"But you have no qualms about hurting others. You have no qualms about telling them that you're better then they are and-"
"If I get help will you shut up," Sheldon asked.
"Yes," Amy said.
"Fine I'll get help."
"Good," Amy said, "and I'll be with you every step of the way."
"Oh you don't have to do that," Sheldon said.
"Yes I do," Amy said, "To make sure you're doing what you're supposed to do"
"Drat," Sheldon said
