Kurt gave a tiny smile before following Rachel, Sam, and Walter out of the choir room, leaving Blaine surrounded by empty chairs and a blank chalkboard.
His heart felt like it was being held underwater.
He had been stupid to forget about Walter, the new guy Kurt was seeing. He wasn't even sure if they were boyfriends, but did that matter? It was still the same principle, whether they were dating or not: Kurt was moving on.
Stupid. So stupid.
He ran down the hallway like an excited puppy only to be met with disappointment. The amused tone in Kurt's voice when he said, "Were you looking for me?" made Blaine's heart soar, and he knew it was something he would never be able to shake off.
Yes. Kurt would always have a hold on Blaine's heart.
He felt like a complete idiot, standing alone in his old high school's choir room with a dumbfounded look on his face. He had been so, so eager to see Kurt, like his heart would pound out of his chest if he didn't see Kurt immediately.
He went to his parent's house that night, since he didn't have anywhere to stay. Blaine was sure Dave would allow him to stay over at their apartment anyway, but there's no way he could go back now. It was too humiliating and too much to ask of Dave after they broke up a few hours ago.
Lying in bed that night, Blaine stared up at his ceiling and tried not to cry when the thought of Kurt on a date with anyone else but him came to mind. His phone buzzed suddenly.
Hey, sorry you couldn't come with us tonight. Wanna get coffee next time?
He knew it was Kurt before even reading who the message was from. He wanted to call Kurt right there and then, wanted to run to his house and kiss him until they could no longer breathe. But instead, Blaine replied with a text.
Of course. Hope you had fun on your date.
He went to sleep dreaming of blue eyes.
